HOUSE NOTESLook at
Look at
the edges.
A small exercise for the next film you watch.
Begin with a frame.
Notice where the camera asks you to look. Then give a moment to the background: a doorway, a passing face, a source of light. The frame is an arrangement of attention.
Let the shot last.
When a camera stays still, movement becomes more visible. You may begin to register wind, breathing or an empty space where someone used to stand.
Carry one image home.
You do not need to explain the whole film immediately. Remember one image and return to it later. Sometimes the detail you keep is more useful than a verdict.
