New Patients

Reception staff in a welcoming clinic

Your first visit, explained

A first appointment is a chance to discuss your concerns and decide whether the proposed care is right for you. There should be room for questions at every stage.

1. Prepare for the conversation

Bring a summary of your health history, current medications and relevant previous care. If you have reports or records, ask in advance whether they would be useful.

2. Consultation and examination

The clinician will discuss your symptoms, daily activities and goals, then explain the examination. Further investigation or referral may be appropriate depending on the findings.

3. Review the options

Recommendations should include the purpose of care, alternatives, potential risks and costs. Treatment is discussed separately from the assessment and proceeds only with your consent.

4. Plan the next step

You should leave knowing what has been discussed and how to ask follow-up questions. Wear comfortable clothing and let the team know about any access needs.
