FRACTURE / THE IMAGE ON THE PIECE IS NOT THE PIECE
FRAGMENT A
A picture is cut.
Cut an ordinary photograph and each piece retains its own region of the picture. An optical hologram is recorded differently: an interference pattern carries information about a wavefront.
FRAGMENT B
An aperture is reduced.
In many holographic arrangements, a smaller portion can still reconstruct a view of the object, with limitations in clarity or viewing range. Losing a portion is not the same operation as cropping a photograph.
FRAGMENT C
The metaphor is tempted.
The intuition that the whole might be distributed among its parts is powerful. It does not show that every atom contains an accessible miniature cosmos. Ask what is encoded, where, and by which reconstruction rule.
