The kettle, the window, a hand near the latch. A local account gives you things you can reach.

Shared boundary.

Water pipes, schedules, sounds through plaster. The room joins systems that exceed its walls. Its independence was a useful approximation.

Missing scale.

The cup arrives through a supply chain. The weather arrives through a larger atmosphere. Enlarge the account and new mechanisms become visible.

Change the origin.

A coordinate system may place its origin anywhere useful. The choice changes the numbers; it need not change the relations being described.
